Video: Yael Reijmer provides new insights on the brain network in dementia

Dr. Yael Reijmer’s  research focuses on the role of the brain network in the development of dementia. With advanced MRI techniques she demonstrated that impairments  in brain connectivity are already observed at an early stage of the disease. These disruptions hamper efficient communication between brain regions and predict who will develop future cognitive decline. The overall goal of her work is to identify which processes cause disruption of brain connectivity in order to stop the process of brain network deterioration. If we can keep our brain network intact, we can possibly prevent decline in cognitive functioning.
