Current projects

Dineke Koek works as a geriatrician at the Department of Geriatrics of the UMC Utrecht since 2010. She obtained her MSc in Clinical Epidemiology in 2004 and finished her PhD in 2005. Concerning patient care, she is specialized in patients with neurodegenerative diseases and head of the memory clinic. Her research focusses on the impact of vascular brain injury on cognition, mobility and other outcomes in geriatric patients. A current research project involves a study on the underpinnings of gait abnormalities and falls in memory clinic patients, zooming in on grey matter atrophy, white matter hyperintensities, and white matter network connectivity. She has 70 peer-reviewed publications, received several research grants, supervises PhD-students, and is principal investigator of randomized clinical trials in patients with (preclinical) dementia. She is active in several committees, including as board member of the Dutch Memory Clinic Network, board member of the Special Interest Group Dementia of the Dutch Geriatrics Society, and working group member of two national guidelines on Mild Cognitive Impairment and Dementia.
