Research focus
The role of vascular lesion location in cognitive impairment and dementia

Current projects
Matthijs Biesbroek finished his PhD on the role of lesion location in vascular cognitive impairment in 2016. He has continued his work on this subject as a postdoctoral researcher, combining research with his clinical training as a resident neurology at the UMC Utrecht. His work focuses mainly on (1) studying the anatomical correlates of cognitive functions by performing lesion-symptom mapping in ischemic stroke, and (2) improving our understanding of the role of lesion location in vascular cognitive impairment, with the aim of developing more accurate diagnostic and prognostic models.
